Hey everybody it's Travis Broadhurst, the Where to go Camping Committee Chairman. The camping place of the month for June is the Alexander Mountain Bike Park (AMBP). This place is different from the other months because you actually cannot camp there (everyont probably gets enough camping in the summer form summer camps and NOAC anyways). However, it is a great place to go for mountain biking that is very close to Asheville. AMBP is roughly 20 minutes form downtown Asheville and is easily accesible. It is located right alongside the French Broad River on River Road. The easiest way to get there is to take exit 19 off of I-26 and head West of 25-70. Turn left at the second light onto Monticello Road and follow that for about 5 miles until it ends at the French Broad River and River Road. Then, turn right on River Road for about 5 miles and you will see signs and a trailhead on your right. The park has over 6 miles of trails with two loops. The first loop is 1.1 miles long and is relatively easy. The second loop is 5 miles long and consists of many steep sections with tight turns and technical sections. It is only for experienced riders. There are also many cut-through trails to switch from loop to loop along your ride. For more information, see the links below, which have a link to a map of the park.

South Mountains State Park is located in Burke County, 20.5 miles south of Morganton. From I-40, turn south at exit 105 on NC 18, travel 11.1 miles and make a right turn onto SR 1913 (Sugarloaf Road). Take SR 1913 to Old NC 18 for 4.3 miles and turn left. Travel 2.7 miles and make a right turn onto SR 1901 (Ward's Gap Road). The park is 1.4 miles off SR 1901 on SR 1904 (South Mountains Park Avenue). For more maps, including a trail map, please visit http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/directions.php .

Good evening, brothers! It's Travis Broadhurst with the Where to go Camping Place of the Month. This month's camping place is Hot Springs, NC. There are a couple of places to camping in and around Hot Springs. Silvermine Campground is a great tenting campground and is located on the banks of the French Broad River. The Appalachain Trail also runs through this campground and the town of Hot Springs. It is easily accesible off of US Highway 25-70. You and your troop can also hike the Appalachain Trail(AT) in and around Hot Springs. You can hike on Max Patch(a wide open field on top of a mountain perfect for viewing the surrounding area and the stars), Lover's Leap, and numerous other landmarks. To relax after your strenuous trip, take a nice dip in the natural hot springs loacted right in town. Trust me, it is very rewarding. to get to Hot Springs, simply take exit 19 (19A if coming from Asheville) towards Marshall heading west on US 25-70. Follow the signs and stay on 25-70 for appriximately 28 miles and you will be there. For further questions, you can email me at geo.traivs@yahoo.com or see the links below.

Brothers, My name is Chambers Loomis, and I am your 2011 Vice-Chief of Administration. If we have not met, please feel free to approach me at the next fellowship or ordeal. Our administration committees are hungry for new members, so now is the time to express any interest you may have in joining. Additionally, I would like to call your attention to the lifeblood of lodge administration-- elections. Our elections teams are currently at the height of the election season. They need help, and you are eligible to help them conduct elections! Contact your chapter chief to join your chapter's team. Also, if your home troop scoutmaster has not reached out to the lodge for help in holding OA elections, please tell him that this resource is available. The lodge officers have been updating the lodge website and facebook page on a weekly basis with exciting news and articles. Make it a point to check each resource at least once a week. Where to Go Camping Committee Chairman Travis Broadhurst posts weekly articles on beautiful camping locations for you to check out. If you see a particularly appealing attraction, tell your troop leaders about it. Lastly, any brothers who are eligible for brotherhood membership should begin memorizing the necessary material to sit before the board at the next event! Let's all look forward to a another successful Spring for Tsali Lodge! WWW, Chambers Loomis
