Lodge Administration, Web Site
Hello Brothers! My name is Travis Broadhurst and I am the Where to Go Camping Committee Chairman. This month’s place to go camping will be in the Bow as well as on the Tsali Lodge website and Facebook page! This month’s place to go camping is the South Mountains State Park. South Mountains State Park is located in Burke County, 20.5 miles south of Morganton. From I-40, turn south at exit 105 on NC 18, travel 11.1 miles and make a right turn onto SR 1913 (Sugarloaf Road). Take SR 1913 to Old NC 18 for 4.3 miles and turn left. Travel 2.7 miles and make a right turn onto SR 1901 (Ward's Gap Road). The park is 1.4 miles off SR 1901 on SR 1904 (South Mountains Park Avenue). For more maps, including a trail map, please visit http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/directions.php . South Mountains State Park offers an intricate system of trails for horse riding, backpacking, and mountain biking (http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/activities.php ). There are plenty of places to camp, from 20 backcountry sites for backpacking, to many group camping sites that are easily accessible. In addition to that, every camping area has a pit toilet nearby. For more information on camping at South Mountains State Park, visit
http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/activities.php . For reservations, see http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/reserve.php or call 1-877-7-CAMP-NC (722-6762).
I hope you and your unit will have a great time camping! If you have any further questions, please see the sites listed below, or feel free to message me on Facebook.

Lodge Administration, Web Site
Good evening, brothers! It's Travis Broadhurst with the Where to go Camping Place of the Month. This month's camping place is Hot Springs, NC. There are a couple of places to camping in and around Hot Springs. Silvermine Campground is a great tenting campground and is located on the banks of the French Broad River. The Appalachain Trail also runs through this campground and the town of Hot Springs. It is easily accesible off of US Highway 25-70. You and your troop can also hike the Appalachain Trail(AT) in and around Hot Springs. You can hike on Max Patch(a wide open field on top of a mountain perfect for viewing the surrounding area and the stars), Lover's Leap, and numerous other landmarks. To relax after your strenuous trip, take a nice dip in the natural hot springs loacted right in town. Trust me, it is very rewarding. to get to Hot Springs, simply take exit 19 (19A if coming from Asheville) towards Marshall heading west on US 25-70. Follow the signs and stay on 25-70 for appriximately 28 miles and you will be there. For further questions, you can email me at geo.traivs@yahoo.com or see the links below.

Lodge Administration, Web Site
Brothers,
My name is Chambers Loomis, and I am your 2011 Vice-Chief of Administration. If we have not met, please feel free to come and talk to me at the next fellowship or ordeal. Our administration committees are hungry for new members, so don't hesitate to express your interest. I would like to call your attention to the lifeblood of lodge administration-- elections. Our elections teams are currently at the height of the election season. They can use all the help they can get, so contact your chapter chief to join your chapter's team. Additionally, if your home troop scoutmaster has not reached out to the lodge for help in holding OA elections, please tell him that this resource is available. The lodge officers have been updating the lodge website and facebook page on a weekly basis with exciting news and articles. Make it a point to check each at least once a week. Where to Go Camping Committee Chairman Travis Broadhurst posts weekly articles on beautiful camping locations for you to check out. If you see a particularly appealing attraction, make sure to tell your troop leaders about it. Lastly, any brothers who are eligible for brotherhood membership should begin memorizing the necessary material to sit before the board at the next event! Let's all look forward to a another successful Spring for Tsali Lodge!

-Cody McMechen- The National Order of the Arrow Conference is the best part of 2012 for the Order of the Arrow. There will be over 8,000 arrowmen at this event competing in athletic events, scout skills, and Indian affairs. This year NOAC will be at Michigan State University. You can come to classes that range from learning about patch ethics to ordeal management. To attend this event you will need to pay the first payment of $100 by January 31st, the second payment of $100 by February 29th, and the total due will be $450 for the youth and $800 for an adult. This event will be a great way to learn about the order, and a great way to other arrowmen from you lodge and from other lodges.
